PeeWee B Battle at the Peterborough Ice Kat's Tournament This Past Weekend
The Lindsay Lynx Peewee B's have advanced to the Championship game of the Peterborough IceKats annual tournament based on a 2nd place finish in Round Robin Play. view rest of the article for details....
The team started with a hard fought tie against the home IceKats. While the team controlled the play and outshot Peterborough 20-10 we found ourselves down 1-0 late in the game. With the goalie pulled and less than 1 second on the clock Kayla Golden scored at the buzzer to tie the game. Defenseman Charlotte Porter was named player of the game. Goalie MacKenzie Finney made several key stops throughout the game to keep it close. There strong defensive play by Charlotte Porter, Emma Shanks, Laura Brown, Hannah Vallier, Julia Sudsbury and Taylor Richmond.
In the 2nd game we played North Durham. The team skated hard but didn't have our best game and dropped a 4-1 decision. Highlights were Rebecca Collins scoring her 1st goal of the year and Laura Brown winning player of the game award. Jordyn Leerentveld and Taryn Lindquist had excellent forechecking games.
This meant we needed to win our final game against Markham to make the finals. It was another closely contested game with the score tied 0-0 with 2 minutes to go. Needing a win to advance the team pulled the goalie with 2 minutes to play. Consistent pressure was applied by the group of Eve Faulkner, Maddy Falls, Kayla Golden, Julia Staniland, Charlotte Porter and Taylor Richmond and finally with 16 seconds left Julia Staniland scored the winning goal to get the win. Eve Faulkner was named player of the game. Taylor Allen and Mya Mattiussi had good all around games with effort.
