Bantam BB Capture Gold
This past weekend your Bantam BB Lynx earned the gold medal after going undefeated through six games during the 25th Annual Cambridge Roadrunners New Years Tournament.

Friday morning started off with a victory over Stratford Aces with Andrea Morrison netting the game winner. Maddy Donnelly would round out the scoring to clinch a 2-0 win.

An evening game against the top ranked Oakville Hornets saw the team play their most complete game of the season yet. Another low scoring win with Hailee Jenkins scoring the only goal in a 1-0 game.

After a hard fought battle, the night before, the girls pulled through with a 1-1 tie against Haldimand River Cats. Belle Shaw found the back of the net for her first of the weekend.

We now faced host team, the Cambridge Roadrunners, for a quarter final match on Saturday evening. Our highest scoring game of the weekend with goals from Maddy Donnelly, Molly Brown and Belle Shaw. A 3-0 victory would put us into the semi-finals against the Leaside Wildcats.

Another great effort clinched the Lynx a spot in the Championship game. Sealing the deal against Leaside was Hailee Jenkins with the game winner and Maddy Donnelly with a spectacular “shot-on-net” right off the draw.

A pregame ceremony with the lights out, each player announced while stepping on the ice under the spot light, and finally the playing of the National Anthem would set the stage for one game that would defy the odds. Victory over the #1 ranked team in Ontario once was glorious enough but twice in the same tournament…..well the gold medal says it all. Oakville proved why they are at the top, however, these 15 girls simply refused to lose and delivered a performance inspired by pure desire to win.

An incredible showing for our Goalie, Courtney Semach who garnered five shutouts in six games. There was no doubt she would be named MVP of the tournament.

From the fist warm up on Friday to the last cheer on Sunday, these girls grew as a team on and off the ice. The success of this weekend is the result of outstanding effort of every player who never gave up and believed in themselves and their teammates.
