Gold Medal for the Bantam BB's
A Golden Finish to Lower Lakes
Written by Coach Tyler

Friday morning began with our only loss of the weekend to a talented Kitchener Lady Rangers club.

The schedule was not in our favour as we returned for a 9:45pm game 2 against Lakeshore Lightning. This was a back and forth affair until late in the third period when Maddy Donnelly scored the only goal of the match with a perfectly executed, well placed shot out of the corner from just above the goal line.

Etobicoke Dolphins proved to be a worthy opponent this time around as we beat them earlier in the season during the Oakville tournament. Carlyn “Car-Car” Marquis capitalized on a beautiful rebound in a 1-0 final for the Lynx.

Heading into a must win game against Mississauga, tensions were high. Molly Brown, executing perfect puck control and body positioning, worked her way down the wall and below the goal line to net the first goal of the game with a sweet wrap-a-round. Shortly after Missy responded with a fluky lob on goal. Once again, we found the back of the net when Olivia Villamere jumped on a puck loosely covered by the goaltender to notch the game winner. Maddy Donnelly rounded out the scoring with an empty netter.

Finishing 2nd in round robin play, we earned a berth in the gold medal game. Another grueling affair against 1st place Kitchener was upon us. Back and forth action took us deep into the third period with no score. This was a true hockey battle with tons of physical play, whomever worked the hardest would be the victor in this one. Finally, with just under 4 minutes on the clock and a battle at Kitchener’s blueline, the puck would be forced to the slot where Autumn “Red” Donnelly was camped out. It was only #9 and the goalie staring each other down. With a flick of the wrist, Red sniped the gold medal winner top shelf where LeAnn keeps the Nutella!

These 15 athletes played with such intensity, drive and heart. Their character, integrity and work ethic were at the forefront all weekend. A special shout out to Courtney Semach who notched 3 shut-outs!

An incredible experience was had by all. Thanks fans for your fantastic support. Let’s keep this train rolling right through Provincials next weekend ladies!
