Lynx Split Weekend Games
The Lindsay Peewee B Lynx split their games this weekend beating Toronto Leaside (3757) 4-0 and losing to Toronto Leaside (3751) 1-0.

On Saturday the girls played Toronto Leaside (3757). It was a tough game as the Lynx were without 3 players (Julia Staniland, Maddy Donnelly and Laura Brown who were away supporting the Atom Lynx team - congratulations Josh and team on your Silver medal). However the girls came to play and Mya Mattiussi got the Lynx on the board early with what would prove to be the winner only 46 seconds into the game with a shot from the high slot. Taylor Allen made a nice pass out from the corner to get one assist with Taryn Lindquist getting the other assist. The Lynx scored again early in the 2nd period with Gracie Cunday working hard in front to bang home a rebound off of an Emma Shanks shot from the point. Assists went to Shanks and Kayla Golden. The Lynx made it 3-0 later in the 2nd as Taylor Allen scored from the slot after Mattiussi made a nice pass out on a wrap around move with the 2nd assist going to Nixon Francis. Hannah Vallier finished off the scoring on an end to end rush and firing a shot to the top corner early in the 3rd period with the lone assist going to Shanks. Emma Lees and Julia Sudsbury played strong defensive games to help Emma Francois earn the shutout.

On Sunday the Lynx played the 1st place Toronto Leaside (3751). It was again going to be a tough game as the team was still without 3 players so the 10 remaining skaters knew they would be in tough against the top Leaside team. The game started out even with both teams getting some good chances early in the 1st period. Emma Francois made a couple of key saves early on to keep the score tied at 0-0. Then Mya Mattiussi used her speed to get a good rush up the ice and fired the puck just over the crossbar. Near the latter part of the 1st the Lynx started to take the play to Leaside and Kayla Golden had a breakaway chance only to have the puck roll off her stick into the Leaside goalie's pads. The Lynx kept up the pressure in the 2nd period and on the first shift Golden hit the post on a shot from the left circle and Gracie Cunday went hard to the net to try to bang home the puck. For a while it looked like the puck had crossed the line only to have the refs wave it off. Later in the 2nd Julia Sudsbury had a chance from the high slot and took a good low shot which the Leaside goalie kicked out and the rebound went straight to Golden who was robbed by a glove save from the Leaside netminder. Leaside was able to take a 1-0 lead late in the 2nd on a good hard high shot on a 2 on 1 which Emma Francois got a glove on but the puck trickled across the line. The Lynx controlled much of the 3rd period with good scoring chances for Emma Lees, Taryn Lindquist and Nixon Francis and posts being hit by Emma Shanks and Taylor Allen but they couldn't get the equalizer past the Leaside goalie. Kayla Golden made a great rush and move up the ice to get another breakaway attempt and made a great move but the Leaside goalie was able to spread out and get her toe on the deke move. The Lynx pulled their goalie with 1 minute left and kept the shots going but just fell short with the final being 1-0 despite outshooting Leaside 23-9. The coaches were very pleased with the effort the team showed, especially considering how short the bench was, and the players were exhausted at the end of the game. The Lynx look to get back on a winning streak with their 2 remaining regular season games before starting the playoffs at the beginning of February. Go LYNX Go!!
