PeeweeB Lynx Back in the Win Column
The Lindsay Peewee B Lynx got back in the win column this past weekend in a big way with a dominating 5-1 win over the Durham West Lightning.

The Lynx controlled the play early in the game with good puck control in the Lightning end but couldn't get any real good scoring chances. Then halfway through the 1st period Mya Mattiussi scored on a good shot from the sideboards to give the Lynx the 1-0 lead. Assists went to Hannah Vallier and Kayla Golden on the play. The Lynx continued to control the play through the period with excellent scoring chances by Nixon Francis and Taryn Lindquist but couldn't find the back of the net again and the 1st period ended 1-0.

The Lynx continued to push the play in the 2nd period and were rewarded with their 2nd goal as Taylor Allen scored what would be the eventual winner. Taylor took a pass from Maddy Donnelly at the Lightning blueline and carried the puck to the hashmarks before getting off a good shot which the Lightning goalie kicked out but Taylor continued to the net and was able to bang home her own rebound. Assists went to Donnelly and Emma Shanks. Taryn Lindquist made a few great cross ice passes to Julia Staniland and Gracie Cunday to create a few other chances before Kayla Golden had a dominant shift controlling the puck down low in the Lightning end. The hard work was rewarded as she spun away from 2 Lightning defenders in the corner and made a great pass out to Nixon Francis who buried the shot low stick side on the Lightning goalie for a 3-0 Lynx lead. Assist went to Golden and Julia Sudsbury. The Lynx continued the pressure throughout the 2nd period as Maddy Donnelly, Julia Sudsbury and Hannah Vallier all had great end-to-end rushes which resulted in good scoring chances.

Early in the 3rd period Mattiussi struck again with a great shot that went bar down before the Lightning goalie could even react. The goal was a result of a great pinch at the blueline by Laura Brown to keep the puck in the Durham West end. Assists went to Brown and Taylor Allen. The Lightning pushed back a bit in the middle of the period and goalie Emma Francois was forced to make two amazing glove saves to keep the score 4-0. However the Lynx good aggressive play got them in penalty trouble in the middle of the period and the Lightning were able to break Francois's shutout bid with a terrific shot to the top corner on an odd player rush. Just after this goal Emma Shanks made a good rush through the neutral zone and cut inside just after the blueline to get a good shot away which the Lightning goalie kicked out. The Lynx were not done yet with their own scoring and Kayla Golden got rewarded for her fantastic effort all game long as she scored on a nifty backhand from in front of the net in the final minute to end the game 5-1. Hard forechecking by Julia Staniland and Gracie Cunday created the chance with both Staniland and Cunday picking up the assists.

The Lynx look to keep up the good play when they travel to Napanee next Sunday to finish off the regular season against the 3rd place Crunch. Go LYNX Go!!
