Gold at the University of Notre Dame Tournament for the Midget B
Submitted By LeAnn Donnelly on Monday, February 11, 2019
The Midget B team left early Thursday for Indiana to play in the South Bend cup. After a fun filled bus ride that even included a full on Dance Party we arrived at our Hotel about 8:00pm. We played the Chicago Falcons Friday morning in a back and forth battle with Chicago getting out to an early lead. The Lynx matched the falcons goal for goal till early in the third where they pulled away and ended up with a 5-3 win to get the tournament started. After some shopping time at the local mall and a team dinner we retired to a fun night at the hotel.

Game 2 Saturday morning had the Lynx matched up against a fast skating ColumbusBlue Jackets team. The Lynx came out ready for action and took a commanding 3 goal lead into the 3rd period. Columbus wasn't about to give up though and stormed back with 2 goals of their own making the Lynx dig a little deeper and come up with a late empty netter to solidify a 4-2 win. We then headed over to the University as a great big hockey family and took a Campus tour and did some shopping in the school bookstore.

Game 3 was Saturday night on the big ice at the University of Notre Dame. What a facility. The girls arrived early to soak it all in and get some great team pics while the moms commandeered the team bus and went shopping for some fun outfits to wear during the game. The Bluewater Hawks were the only other canadian team in our division. This was a tough game for our girls after a 9 hour gap between games and we came out a little slow. It was a rough game with chances at both ends but yet again the Lynx were not to be stopped. After a second period goal we hung on for a 1-0 win and a berth in the Gold Medal game on Sunday.

The gold medal game ended up being against the same Bluewater hawks creating an instant heated rivalry. It was a battle filled game. These Lynx girls just don't know the word quit... They got out to a 1-0 lead in the first and added another in the second and sealed the deal mid way through the third putting them up 3-0. The game got pretty heated and the Lynx girls were not going to back down. They defended each other to the very end and fought for every inch of ice they got. The final buzzer went and the girls finally got to relax and enjoy the glory they had earned. After some great pics with the cup it was time to head home.

Our bus had a breakdown on the I-75 just south of Detroit at dusk in a snow storm making for a tense couple of hours but as usual this hockey family stepped up and came together again. It was a very long 16 hour return trip but the laughs and giggles of the girls continued long into the night helping everyone get through the long journey.

The coaching staff and parents could not be more proud of this group of girls.
