Inside the Lynx Den: Coach Spotlight Series
Over the next few days, we will be showcasing our 2023 -2024 Tier 1 Rep Coaches in the Coach Spotlight Series. Inside the Lynx Den today: Robert Cyr, U15 Tier 1 Head Coach

ABOUT THE COACH

Robert has a passion for child & youth development within his over 25yr professional career in recreation & childcare. He has coaching experience in a variety of sports including baseball, basketball, rugby, football, soccer, ball hockey, lacrosse, & hockey. Robert has dedicated over a decade to coaching with both the Lynx & LMHA. He’s held roles of head coach, assistant coach, and parent volunteer.

Robert believes the hockey season should be about developing skill, growing in knowledge of the game, improving as a team, and learning how to be great community members. Beyond the ice he believes the key to a successful season comes from the friendships players build, the life skills they learn, and simply having fun & enjoying the competition.

EXPERIENCE

20yrs of child & youth teaching & skills development has provided Robert with a great deal of knowledge & experience. He’s trained in numerous sports related areas, including Physical Literacy, Fundamental Movement Skills, and Trauma Informed Sport, and holds certifications in several sports. Over the past 5yrs, Robert has expanded his skills to include on ice training through the implementation of power skating and hockey camps as well as dryland training development including agility, speed, strength, puck control, skating, shooting, & passing.

Robert has been coaching minor hockey since 2013 as both an assistant coach & head coach of Representative Level teams including the Head Coach of the 2020-21 Peewee Tier 1 team and the Head Coach of the 2021-22 U15BB Lindsay Muskies.

PROGRAM GOALS

Robert’s planning process for the upcoming season includes structured practices, games, exhibition games, tournaments, dryland training, team building, and a few additional items still to be added.

Overall Robert strives to ensure players learn & grow as they build relationships with their teammates. Mentors are critical to youth growth & development and as a coach, he believes that sport provides great opportunities to teach life lessons and skills that are transferable.
