PW B Lynx Tie Peterborough Ice Kats PW A
The Lindsay PW B Lynx challenged themselves last night and jumped up 2 categories to play the Peterborough A team. This was a great opportunity for the girls as the IceKats are a fast and skilled team. However the Lynx were not intimidated and battled hard to earn a very even and hard fought 0-0 tie.

Even though this was just an exhibition game, it was an intense game and had the feel of a playoff game. The Lynx surprised the IceKats early with their own speed and aggressive play and in fact controlled much of the play for the 1st period and ended up outshooting the IceKats 7-1 in the period. Highlights were a shot from the point from Julia Sudsbury which rang off the post, a rush from Emma Shanks in which she wripped a shot off the goalie's mask and a 2 on 1 rush which saw Nixon Francis get off a hard shot which may have gone in if not blocked by the IceKats defense. The line of Kayla Golden, Mya Mattiussi and Gracie Cunday had a really strong period as every shift they appeared to create a scoring chance.

In the 2nd period the IceKats found their legs and took it to the Lynx. With the benefit of the only PP of the game they would end up outshooting the Lynx 6-3 this period and had the better opportunities. However great penalty killing by Maddy Donnelly, Taylor Allen, Hannah Vallier and Emma Lees and great saves from goalie Emma Francois kept the game tied 0-0 heading into the 3rd.

The 3rd period was much more even than the first 2 and saw the Lynx outshoot the Icekats 5-4 for a total in the game of a 15-11 advantage for the Lynx. The line of Julia Staniland, Laura Brown and Taryn Lindquist had a really strong period and generated some excellent chances only to be denied. Strong positional play by Centres Kayla Golden and Maddy Donnelly was key to assisting in keeping the IceKats from generating any real scoring chances. Emma Francois played perhaps her best game of the year in getting her 27th shutout.

The Lynx will look to use this positive momentum in Game 2 of the Lower Lakes Round 3 Playoff Series against Whitby this Wednesday night in Oakwood at 7 pm. Go LYNX Go!!
