Peewee B Lynx Suffer 1st Loss
The Lynx traveled to Toronto on Sunday to play the 1st place Toronto Leaside (3751). It was a great and fast game which ultimately saw Leaside hand the Lynx their 1st regular season loss by a score of 2-0.

The game started out very even with both teams being tentative early on. Leaside had the first few real good scoring chances with two breakaways but goalie Emma Francois was up to the challenge in turning away both. Lindsay's first chance came halfway through the period as Mya Mattiussi used her speed to get a breakaway and took a hard shot which the Leaside goalie was able to get in front of. Later in the period Hannah Vallier went on an end to end rush but just had the puck knocked off her stick as she was cutting to the net. The 1st period ended up scoreless and the teams headed to the 2nd tied at 0-0.

The 2nd period saw both teams start to move their feet more and the pace of play sped up. Leaside got on the board early in the 2nd off a 2 on 1 rush with Emma Francois making the 1st save but the Leaside player banged home the rebound for a 1-0 lead. The very next shift saw the line of Gracie Cunday, Julia Staniland and Taryn Lindquist hem the Leaside team in their end which resulted in a goalmouth scramble and Gracie Cunday almost knocking in the loose puck only to be stopped by the stretched out Leaside goalie. Later in the period Julia Sudsbury picked up a loose put at the Lynx blueline and went for a great rush up the ice only to have her centreing pass to an open Taylor Allen broken up at the last minute. On the next shift Kayla Golden nearly scored on a wrap around and Laura Brown had a chance with a rebound off of a Sudsbury point shot which was kicked away by the Leaside goalie. Near the end of the 2nd a goalmouth scramble in front of the Lynx goal saw another rebound goal to put Leaside up 2-0 heading into the 3rd.

The Lynx came out fired up for the 3rd period. Emma Lees had a super shift and was all over the ice from her defense position during the 1st shift of the 3rd and it seemed to spark the team. The Lynx team controlled the play for the majority of the 3rd and seemed to constantly be putting pressure on Leaside. This resulted in a 5 on 3 powerplay which saw Kayla Golden have numerous chances only to be turned away by some great saves by the Leaside goalie. Later in the powerplay Laura Brown had a great tip off of an Emma Shanks point shot which was again turned away with a toe save by the Leaside goalie. The Lynx pulled the goalie with 3 minutes left and kept the puck in the Leaside zone and continued the pressure. Maddy Donnelly, Nixon Francis, Golden and Shanks all had good shots but the Leaside goalie was able to keep them all out and preserve the 2-0 Leaside win.

It was a great game by both teams and the coaching staff was very proud of how the girls battled hard to the end and never gave up. Hopefully it was a preview of some good hockey to be played as we head into the playoff stretch. Go LYNX Go!!
